The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development held a high-level seminar Tuesday June 9, 2015 at the Ministerial Conference Centre “Convention” in Paris, 9 in close collaboration with key transportation and tourism players, and actors involved in the learning of the French language.

For the first time, the seminar tackled the questions of the integration of the French language within our tourism industry and the positive impact of linguistic sojourns on the attractiveness of our regions.

Learning French in France is an essential element of our attractiveness and of our tourism.

This seminar was the opportunity to place emphasis on linguistic tourism; a branch which is currently expanding generating one million overnight stays and over 115 million euros turnover per year. In the face of such demand, notably from developing countries, this seminar highlights the capacity of Language Centers to propose innovative opportunities to a demanding clientele.

Opportunities for sojourners are numerous and varied in France. Linguistic and sporting trips, gastronomic and oenological tours, summer camps and historical sightseeing with linguistic courses are all available today.

By providing quality accommodation, most often immersed in a totally French environment, the objective today is to develop strong promotional action by providing personalized hospitality, and an increased amount of services.

For the past few years, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and of International Development has supported the promotion of linguistic trips.
The label “Qualité Français Langue Etrangère” notably attests to the professionalization of language centres. The reception facilities for school audiences have also been credited with the label « Youth and Sports ». It is time to gather these quality touristic offers under a singular cohesive umbrella to ensure the improved quality of services for visitors sojourning in France.
