Alexandre Yersin was a French phycisian and bacteriologist. FAQ

1) I am a student in ones of the universities of Hong Kong or Macau but I am not a Hong Kong / Macau permanent resident, am I still eligible?
- Only Hong Kong/Macau permanent resident card holders are eligible.

2) I don’t speak French, am I still eligible?
- Yes. French language proficiency is evaluated by the host French Institution, be it a programme taught in French or in English.

3) Currently, I am doing an exchange program in France, am I eligible to apply for scholarship 2011?
- You are eligible if you are not working or pursuing a complete academic program (such as 3 years of bachelor etc.) in France.

4) I wish to study French, am I eligible?
- AY Scholarship doesn’t cover the discipline - “French language learning in France”.

5) Are the Erasmus Mundus programs covered by the AY scholarship?
- AY scholarship is offered only for Master programs or equivalent in France. Erasmus Mundus programs are generally double degree programs which require students to spend their study time in two or more countries in Europe.

6) Currently I am doing my final year for getting the Bachelor degree and I will be graduated in June 2011. Could I send you my transcript records first and then send the degree of the Bachelor program after the application deadline?
- Yes. For your application file, we only request the transcript records for the two first years and those of the first semester of your third year. However, selected students will be able to start their Master program in France (and consequently get the scholarship) only if they are graduated.

7) If I apply for this AY scholarship, do I have to apply by myself for the Master degree?
- The application for the “Alexandre Yersin” Excellence Scholarships and the one for the host institution in France are two different and disconnected processes. Consequently, you are solely in charge of your application for the host institutions of your choice.

8) The result of my application to a French institution won’t be provided before the AY scholarship application deadline, could I send you my admission letter after this date?
- You can apply for AY scholarship without the Final Admission Letter from the host French Institution. But it is mandatory to provide this Final Admission Letter for being definitely awarded the scholarship. We recommend you to send us your Admission Letter as soon as you receive it.

9) Am I still eligible if I decide to follow a Master program which is not stated on my application file?
- No. You can at most indicate 3 institutions (several Master program per institution are possible) on your application file. If you are refused by all of them or if you decide to follow another program, you won’t be eligible for the AY scholarship.

10) What are the selection criteria?
- The selection criteria of the “Alexandre Yersin” Excellence Scholarship are based on academic results as well as on the professional / personal project. In other words, the selection won’t be only based on the academic results as we also give a great importance to the reasons, your interest and motivation for going to France, and your career project.

11) What is the selection procedure?
- The selection procedure is divided into two phases: an assessment of your application file by experts in Paris and an interview (mid May) with a local jury in Hong Kong. The results are given the 24th of May.

PS: Consulate General does not provide any critiques on unsuccessful applications. The decisions made by the judging panel are final and non-disputable.

12) Is there a minimum requirement for the GPA?
- There is no minimum requirement. However, the Alexandre Yersin is an excellence scholarship. Consequently, keep in mind we are looking for students with outstanding achievements.

13) I won’t be in Hong Kong or Macau during the interview session, what are the others options?
- Although a face to face interview is always better to clearly expose your project, we have the possibility to organize phone interview. Your physical presence or absence in Hong Kong during the interview session won’t influence your chance to be granted the scholarship.

14) How long the scholarship will cover my expenses if I am selected?
- The scholarship may cover the whole length of your Master program, within the limit of 24 months. Consequently, it is why it is very important that the admission Letter should indicate the start date & final date of the program..
