Dr Jean-Sebastien HOFFMANN de l’Oncopole de Toulouse (CRCT) à Hong Kong & Macau (23-27/5/2016) [en]

In order to study opportunities of cooperation and partnership with Hong Kong and Macau institutions, Dr Jean-Sebastien Hoffmann was on the move, from the 23rd to the 27th of May 2016. He took this occasion to meet scientists from local universities, where he gave lectures.

Doctor Jean-Sebastien Hoffmann is director of research of the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (Inserm). He is heading the Research team working on “Regulation of DNA replication & genetic instability in cancers” at the Cancer Research Center of Toulouse (CRCT). CRCT is a new public pole of research among the ONCOPOLE Toulouse, a campus gathering all regional players involved in the fight against cancer : healthcare professionals, public researchers, private researchers, academics and entrepreneurs.

Thanks to the support of the Consulate general of France in Hong Kong and Macau, Dr Jean-Sebastien Hoffmann was visiting Hong Kong and Macao to explore furthers opportunities of scientific collaboration with particular focus on cancer research and genetic instability.

In the Department of Biomedical Sciences of City University of Hong Kong (City U), the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Macau (UMac), the Division of Life Science of the Hong Kong University of Sciences and Technology (HKUST) and the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong (HKU), Dr Jean-Sebastien Hoffmann has been invited to give a lecture entitled “POLQ, the gene encoding the DNA replication timing factor Pol θ, is a general and strong predictor of patient outcome for multiple types of cancer “ where he presented his last research results showing how replication stress generates genomic instability.

In the Polytechnic University of Hong Kong (PolyU), Dr Jean-Sebastien Hoffmann has been able to continue the discussion initiated in October 2015, at the occasion of the visit of a delegation of PolyU in Toulouse. This time he also visited the department of Applied Biology and Chemical Technology.

All together, these discussions led to some opportunities of cooperation between the CRCT in Toulouse and Hong Kong and Macau universities. The CRCT should be represented by one of its researchers at the Gordon Conference on Genomic Instability to be held at HKUST in July,2016.

Note that this week, Mr C Y Leung, Chief Executive of the Government of Hong Kong, at the occasion of his visit in France, will visit the ONCOPOLE Toulouse.
