The Economic Department is a branch of the Treasury Department at the French Ministry of the Economy and Finances.
It constitute the international network of the French Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Industry and are under the authority of the Heads of Mission.
The missions of the Economic Department are:
Analysis and economical and financial watch on a macroeconomic and sectoral basis, including the “country risk” analyses; monitoring of financial markets worldwide.
Coordination of economical and financial relations and bilateral trade with countries of their competencies, on behalf of the Treasury Department or other administrations.
A follow up and analysis of companies’ international expansion, whether it concerns exportations, French investments abroad, foreign investments in France or involment in huge projects.
In Hong Kong, three persons, under the direction of Mr. Stéphane CIENIEWSKI, are fully devoted to the implementation of these missions.

Since September 2009, the activities of the Economic Department have been separated from French Trade Commission - Ubifrance’s. The French Trade Commission - Ubifrance is now directly in charge of coaching actions to French companies and particularly SME (information, advice and guidance, assistance in promotion, participation in trade fairs and seminars) in order to develop their presence on the international scene.
