[Hong Kong – June 9, 2015] The French International School (FIS) is delighted to announce that they have been granted a new site in Tseung Kwan O by the Hong Kong Education Bureau (EDB) for the development of a new campus. With the aim to open this new campus in September 2018, FIS will create 950 primary and junior secondary school places to better serve the international and French speaking students in Hong Kong.

Mr. Arnaud de Surville, President of FIS Executive Committee, is thrilled with the decision of EDB: “This is a dream come true! We are very grateful to the Hong Kong government for granting us this beautiful and centrally-located site in Tseung Kwan O. This additional campus will present us with a wonderful opportunity to cater for and integrate into the New Territories community. This marks the starting point of a fabulous and new adventure.”

FIS Headmaster, Mr. Christian Soulard, added: “FIS has a long-lasting history of operating in two streams: the International Stream and French Stream. We believe that the opening of this new campus will help us build a culturally diverse community and establish strong links with the local communities.” In the opening year, the school will be able to welcome 410 students from both International and French Streams and its goal is to reach its full capacity within 5 years.

The greenfield area of around 8,200 square meters in Tseung Kwan O is truly an ideal location to create an eco-friendly, forward-thinking and sustainable campus respectful of the local surroundings. As a community-conscious school that actively promotes sustainable development, FIS’ ambition is to set an exemplary regional model. The school has just launched a design competition for this future innovative and unique green campus.

By expanding its presence in the New Territories, the school aims to extend its spirit and ethos of community involvement through various community programs and schemes. FIS’ initiatives include welcoming the local community to utilize school facilities such as the gymnasium, auditorium, outdoor playground, swimming pool, running track; providing access to FIS Native English Teachers to teach English to local students during the weekends; offering a window to the French arts and cultures; and sharing its eco-sustainability programs and botanical garden with local schools and neighbours.
