French writers at Hong Kong Book Fair 2016 [fr] [中文]

The Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macau participated in the Hong Kong Book Fair 2016 from 20 to 26 July this year. In partnership with the French bookstore Parenthèses, a booth named “Welcome to France !” (Bonjour ! 悅讀法國) represented the French presence at the International Cultural Village.

A selection of books for French learning, ranging from comic strips to renowned literature such as The Little Prince and Little Nicolas was available for sale at the booth. In addition, books from our French authors invited were also be available.

Three French authors, each of whom has her own area of expertise, have been invited by the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macau to participate in the Hong Kong Book Fair, which is also known as one of the most important events in the summer in town. Mrs Christine Cappio-Cheung (張雪婷), Ms Elisabeth Brami and Ms Florence de Changy were invited to meet readers in Hong Kong. All members of the public in town have been able to benefit from their presence by attending their seminars and also their signing sessions.

Activities which aim at promoting French language and French gastronomy have also been conducted at the book fair this year.

• 20th July (Wednesday) 6:45pm – 8:15pm

Meet Florence de Changy , the French correspondent for the French newspaper Le Monde and follow her investigation of the mysterious disappearance of the flight MH370

Ms de Changy spoke of her analysis in the book and possible implications related to this intriguing incident, which has been the most puzzling aviation incident happened in March 2014 throughout history. Fascinated by literature, Elisabeth Brami shared her passion and love for reading with parents and children. Knowing that inculcate an interest for reading in children has been a real challenge for parents, Elisabeth Brami spoke of ways to help parents to overcome it in nowadays digital age. « Crazy Story Competition » with Elisabeth Brami

Elisabeth Brami held a “Crazy Story Competition” for little ones at the Commercial Press Kiddyland in Causeway Bay on July 23rd. Using her books “Dico des bêtises” (Literal translation: Dictionary of crazy, silly ideas), “The Smartypants Guidebook” and her other works for young children, Elisabeth Brami brought loads of fun for all the young participants, while helping them to develop their own ability of imagination.
Want to become the King of Craziness? An event not to be missed. This children workshop was conducted in French by Elisabeth Brami, with simultaneous interpretation in English.

“Gweimui’s Hong Kong story” was published last month and has successfully led to a wide range of positive reviews from around town. As Christine Cappio told her own story and adventures in Hong Kong for the past 30 years, local readers were invited to visualize her reminiscences about her life in Hong Kong since 1986. This seminar was in Cantonese and English, and moderated by Prof Stephen Cheung Yan Leung, President of the Education University of Hong Kong.

French language and French gastronomy activities

Meet Poyee Lee, local author and learn about French cuisine and culture

After staying in France for around a year by joining Working Holiday Programme, Poyee has been writing about her adventure in France. During this session, Poyee shared with audience her experience in France, and also her tips in cooking French cuisines.

« French Speak-dating with our beloved comic heroes!”»
All visitors of the Hong Kong Book Fair are invited to participate in this activity and learn some phrases in French, while get to know the most famous characters in comics strips in France, namely the Smurfs, Asterix and Tintin.
