As one of the best examples of the cooperation between France and Hong Kong, Hong Kong Tramways Limited announced on 28 November 2011 the launch of its newly renovated trams.

Combining the vintage design and the application of the latest technology, the new design aims for enhancing passenger comfort and safety on tram, as well as fostering the green features of tram.
The officiating guests at the Launching Ceremony (from left to right) include: Honourable Ms Miriam Lau, Member of the Legislative Council (Transport FC), Honourable Mr Andrew Cheng, Chairman of Panel on Transport of the Legislative Council, Ms Eva Cheng, Secretary for Transport and Housing, Mr Bruno Charrade, Managing Director of the Hong Kong Tramways and Mr Arnaud Barthelemy, Consul-General of France.

The tramway is one of the best examples of the coopeartion between France and Hong Kong. The company has been run by the French company Veolia Transport together with the Wharf Holdings since 2009. It operates a fleet of 163 tramcars, carrying an average of 230,000 passengers every day.
