Prof. Etienne Ghys visiting Hong Kong - October 5&6, 2016 [fr]

Professor Ghys, mathematician CNRS research director at the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon, will be in Hong Kong on 5 and 6 October, 2016.


Prof. Ghys is Member of the French Academy of Sciences, Member of the Academia Europaea, known for his research in geometry and dynamical systems, as well as its extension work, will give two public lectures in Hong Kong.

The first, in the prestigious series of lectures in the City University of Hong Kong (City U): "France-Hong Kong Distinguished Lectures", co-organized by City U, the Academy of Sciences, the College of France, the chapter of the Legion of Honour and the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macao, Etienne Ghys give a talk entitled "The Shape of the Planet Earth? An Unexpectedly Deep Mathematical Challenge!"

The second in which, Etienne Ghys will host the film "DIMENSIONS ... A walk through mathematics! ... ", which he co-produced with Jos Leys and Aurélien Alvarez. For an hour, the Hong Kong International French School, short chapters of the animated film will be explained by Etienne Ghys left entirely to the public to question the professor about the film and the mathematical concepts that are detailed.
