Prof. Marie-Claire Bergère at CUHK (20-27/4/2016)

Prof. Marie-Claire Bergère will be at the Chinese University of Hong Kong from 20th to 27th of April 2016 to give a distinguished lecture and a workshop.

Professor Bergère first attracted the attention of scholars in 1968 with her studies of Chinese bourgeoisie and the 1911 Revolution. Among her 17 books and numerous papers on modern and contemporary China, “The Golden Age of the Chinese Bourgeoisie 1911-1937”, “China from 1949 to Present”, “Sun Yat-sen”, “Shanghai: China’s Gateway to Modernity”, “Capitalism and Capitalists in China: From Origins to Present”, “China: The New State Capitalism” have been widely read and acclaimed by scholars worldwide. Her innovative approaches on Sun Yat-sen and the origins and transformation of Chinese capitalism have opened a new horizon in Chinese studies.

Prof. Bergère will give a brainstorming workshop on "The role of state Enterprises in the industrialization of China ( 19th-21th Centuries)
