Science Rendez-Vous: World revolution driven by artificial intelligence and robotics [fr]

Join us in the next Science Rendez-vous on 31 October, which will talk about the influence of artificial intelligence and robotics on the future.

In the 21st century, all we seem to be hearing about is the impending world revolution driven by artificial intelligence and robotics. Great concerns for ethical responsibilities and the future for human has arisen from the rapid advance of technology.

In the next Science Rendez-vous, Professor Pascale Fung from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and David Goldsmith from Goldsmith Organization will discuss a few questions related to artificial intelligence and robotics:

  • Automation is already replacing many jobs. Is it time to make laws to protect some of these industries?
  • Where will AI be in five to ten years?
  • Should we be concerned about military and other armed robots?
  • What is future trend for technological developments?
  • What can human beings do that machines cannot?
  • How can a robot be liable forharm inflicted on a human?

About "Science Rendez-vous"

Dedicated to a large audience, these monthly talks - aim at taking part in the dissemination of scientific culture in Hong Kong. Through informal talks and exchanges with the audience, renowned experts from France or Hong Kong will popularize a large variety of scientific topics.

The « Science Rendez-Vous » will stay close from topical issues and will keep an eye on ground-breaking discoveries made by French or local teams as well as teams working in cooperation between the two countries.

The talks will be given in English in the following format: 40-minute speech followed by a Q&A session fostering interaction between the speaker and the audience.

About the speakers

Pascale Fung

Pascale Fung is a Professor at the Department of Electronic & Computer Engineering at The Hong Kong University of Science & Technology. She is an elected Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) for her “contributions to human-machine interactions”, and an elected Fellow of the International Speech Communication Association for “fundamental contributions to the interdisciplinary area of spoken language human-machine interactions”. She is the founding Director of InterACT at HKUST, a joint research and education center with Carnegie Mellon University, University of Karlsruhe (TH) and Waseda University. She co-founded the Human Language Technology Center (HLTC). She is an affiliated faculty with the Robotics Institute at HKUST. She is the founding chair of the Women Faculty Association at HKUST.

David Goldsmith

Leadership and management expert David Goldsmith is a consultant, advisor, speaker, telecast host, author of more than 500 published articles on topics such as strategy, technology, new product development, marketing, customer service, innovation, and forecasting to name a few, as well had been a part of the NYU SPCS Faculty for 12 years. He is co-founder and President of Goldsmith Organization LLC based in Syracuse, NY.
