Since 1998, the Consulate General of France has already brought its financial and logistic support to 7 joint research laboratories. Some of them are based in the local universities.
HKU-Pasteur Research Centre : created in 1999, it brings together the Institut Pasteur and the University of Hong Kong excellence skills in infectious disease research and education.
International Associate Laboratory "ROCADE" is a collaborative project between the "Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique" (CNRS) and University Paul Sabatier in Toulouse, and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. The objective of ROCADE is to better understand the atomic and molecular transfers during the multiplication of neuronal cells.
"LMTM" laboratory is the second "International Associated Laboratory"(LIA) put in place by the CNRS with a Hong Kong partner. It was officially established on the 1st of January 2009 and came up as the result of a nine years old scientific co-operation between two research labs located at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and the “Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Paris” (ENSCP) which is associated with the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS). The aim of the researches conducted by this joint laboratory is to develop effective and safe drugs based on products used in traditional Chinese medicine for treating infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus.
L’ Ecole Française d’Extrême Orient (2001-2008) located in the Chinese University of Hong Kong and managed by Dr. M. Lü Pengzhi since 2008. It promotes scholarly exchanges, welcoming French and international scholars and students to develop researches in the field of the history of Chinese religions.
Associate Team "BIOSENS" (2005-2008) : a collaborative project between the INRIA and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. The objective of BIOSENS was to develop biologically inspired sensory processing for artificial vision and olfaction.
The French Centre for Research on Contemporary China ("CEFC") founded in 199, is based in Hong Kong; our offices in Taipei were opened in 1994. The CEFC’s mission is to study political, economic and social developments in the People’s Republic of China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao.
The Veolia Water Research Centre (2002-2007) based at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Researchers worked on waste water treatments.
France-Hong Kong Research Centre for Financial and Insurance Engineering (2002-2006) as a result of a partnership between the City University of Hong Kong and the INRIA / Ecole Polytechnique. The field was mathematics applied to the finance and insurance.
One other international collaborative project involving the CNRS and the "Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Paris" (ENSCP) in Paris, is in the final step of discussion with the Chinese University of Hong Kong, thank to the Consulate General of France support, to develop researchs for adding value to natural resources used in the Traditional Chinese Medicine.
