Summer International Film Festival (August 11 - 25) : French films selection [fr]
The new edition of the Cine Fan Summer International Film Festival will be held from August 11 to 25 août in 5 different venues Arts Centre agnès b. Cinema, The Grand Cinema, UA Cine Moko, HK Science Museum Lecture Hall et MCL Telford Cinema) with a selection of more than 30 films from all over the world.
The festival will present three recent French films or coproductions :
Diary of a Chambermaid by Benoît Jacquot with Léa Seydoux, Vincent Lindon, Clotilde Mollet and Vincent Lacoste. The film was presented during the last Berlin International Film Festival.
The beginning of the 20th century in provincial France. Highly sought after because of her beauty, Célestine is a young chambermaid who has just arrived from Paris into the service of the Lanlaire family. Rejecting Monsieur’s overtures, Célestine must also cope with Madame Lanlaire, a strict and severe woman who rules the household with an iron fist. She makes the acquaintance of Joseph, the Lanlaire’s mysterious gardener, and becomes fascinated by him.

Abandoned by his mother at the age of 6, Malony is constantly in and out of juvenile court. An adoptive family grows around this young delinquent: Florence, a children’s magistrate nearing retirement, and Yann, a caseworker and himself the survivor of a very difficult childhood.
Together they follow the boy’s journey and try unfailingly to save him. Then Malony is sent to a stricter educational center, where he meets Tess, a very special young girl who will show him that there are reasons for hope.

The festival will open with Taiwanese filmmaker Hou Hsiao-Hsien’s latest film The Assassin , awarded Best director at Cannes Film Festival 2015.
