Symposium : « City Carbon Vision 2015 – Risk & Resilience”(19/05/2015) [fr]
As part of the pre-COP 21 meetings – which are taking place in China in order to advance on environmental measures that China has to take by the end of 2015 - a conference on the management of city-carbon has been held on the 19th of May 2015 in Hong Kong.
The event was organized by "The Climate Group".
Nearly two hundred people were present, among them, members of the governments of Hong Kong, Mainland China and Europe, but also representatives of Tokyo city, Hong Kong companies and international experts.
The morning was devoted to strategies related to the carbon market.
After debriefing of the current situation in Hong Kong, in Mainland China and worldwide, stakeholders proposed innovative strategies to help Hong Kong taking part of this big emerging market. They detailed best practices in carbon markets, and financial interests and benefits that could bring investments in green growth.
In the second part of the day, the experts presented new strategies to put in place around the world to establish a "green growth” of cities.
The idea is to build on existing initiatives to reach a consensus among institutions and Hong Kong companies to help the city to “green”-growth. Standards and strategies to develop "SMART" and “GREEN” technologies have been detailed, especially in the building industry and transportation.
In conclusion, the possible consequences of climate change on the city of Hong Kong - if the Hong Kong institutions persisted in their resilience - were described.
