The Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macau and "La Société Mathématiques de France" join to promote Mathematics! [fr]

Hong Kong is proud to be host to over 600 of the brightest secondary schools students in Mathematics - from more than 100 countries and regions - for the 57th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO 2016) taking place on 6-16 July 2016 at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST).

In order to educate the local public, the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macau organizes, throughout the year 2016, scientific events related to Mathematics.

Thanks to the support of Société Mathématique de France (SMF), the Scientific Service of the Consulate hopes to bring the theme of Mathematics into the heart of Hong Kong and Macanese public, for example through the exhibition "Today’s math" (“Les mathématiques d’aujourd’hui”).

The idea for this exhibition came from an article published in Le Monde in August 2006 entitled "their Eureka moment " which illustrated six beautiful pictures, signed by Ed Alcock, showing six French mathematicians in an unexpected environment and yet suitable for their researches. The SMF and the International Committee of Mathematical Games (ICMG) then had the idea of putting these portraits into exhibition panels along with visually explanations of their work.

This exhibition, which will be presented in different locations in Hong Kong, is currently displayed at the CDI (Centre for Documentation and information) of the French International School (FIS) in Hong Kong Blue Pool Road since March, 15th.
