It is mandatory to obtain an appointment online to apply for a visa. Application time slots are between 8:30 and 12:30 from Monday to Friday.
On scheduled interview, applicants must come in person with their passport and all original documents, with a complete set of photocopies. The Consulate won’t do any photocopies and it won’t be possible to complete your application later.
All documents submitted to the visa department have to be written in French or English. If not, they have to be accompanied by a certified translation.
NOTE: You may also refer to this list for stays in French overseas territories (French Polynesia, New Caledonia, etc...)
1 short-stay visa application form duly completed and signed (available to download or at the Consulate General)
1 color ID photograph, passport size with white background (35x45mm) (example)
Valid passport (more than 3 months from the date of return of your trip) + 1 copy of the identity page
1 copy of the Hong Kong and / or Macau ID Card
1 copy of the Hong Kong and / or Macau visa valid for 1 month from the date of return from your trip
copies of your previous Schengen visas, if applicable
Original leave letter from the employer
If you are going to attend a conference : 1 copy of the invitation and registration to the conference
1 copy of the last 3 months bank statements or bankbook of Hong Kong or Macau showing your salary and everyday expenses
NOTE: Certificates of deposit are not accepted
1 copy of a proof of address, less than 3 months old (water, gas, electricity bill...)
copies of your degrees (Master or above) obtained in France, if applicable
1 copy of airline ticket or confirmed booking, including return to Hong Kong/Macau
If you are visiting several Schengen countries, 1 copy of the transport bookings for the whole itinerary (border crossings)
if you are going to stay in a hotel in France: fill in precisely part 31 of the application form.
if you are going to stay with friends or family : original housing certificate (specimen) issued by the city hall of the city where you will stay (the original document will be provided to you by your host in France)
1 copy of travel insurance for the Schengen area (medical expenses, coverage for at least 30 000 EUR, hospitalization and repatriation) valid for the whole duration of your stay together with details of the coverage
For minors :
Travel authorization (sample) by both father and mother (certified signatures)
1 copy of ID card or passport of both parents and true certified copy of the birth certificate
school certificate (current year), and if the visa is requested during the summer, re-registration for the next school year.
For homemakers :
1 copy of your marriage certificate. If you were not married in France or Hong Kong, it has to be certified by the consulate of the country of celebration.
1 copy of your spouse’s passport
Leave letter from your spouse’s employer
1 copy of your spouse’s bank statements or bank book (last 3 months)
