Two French Nobel Prize at the inauguration of the "Institute for Advanced Study" of the "City university of Hong Kong", Nov. 22, 2015 [fr]

The Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) of the City University of Hong Kong (CityU) was inaugurated on November 22, 2015 at CityU from 11am to 2pm in presence of M. Eric Berti (Consul general in Hong Kong and Macau), Prof. Serge Haroche, Nobel Prize Laureate in Physics in 2012, Prof. Jean-Marie Lehn, Nobel Prize Laureate in Chemistry in 1987, Prof. Philippe Ciarlet, Member of French Academy of Sciences. The inauguration was organized by Prof. Jian Lu, Vice-President (Research and Technology) and Dean of Graduate Studies of City University of Hong Kong.

The creation of this institute marks a new phase in the promotion of innovative research in Hong Kong. CityU IAS is an international centre of excellence for interdisciplinary and team-based research on today’s academic and societal global challenges, one of the few such centers in the region. By bringing together an interdisciplinary team of world-renowned scholars and researchers, the IAS will deal with the major global problems. Firstly, IAS’s researchs will focus on 3 cross-cutting themes : One Health, Digital Society and Smart City.
IAS aims at driving cutting-edge research by offering research fellowships, doing partnerships with prestigious academic institutions worldwide and organizing conferences, symposiums and workshops.
Four of the twelve members of the Scientific Committee of the Institute are important French scientists : Professor Haroche, Professor Jean-Marie Lehn, Professor Philippe Ciarlet and Professor Pierre-Louis Lions,Fields Medalist –Prof. Lions was unfortunately absent for the ceremony.

IAS will also benefit immensely from the expert guidance of Professor David D. Ho, Scientific Director and CEO of the Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center and Member of US Institute of Medicine and Academia Sinica in Taiwan, and Dr Lee Kai-fu, Chairman and CEO of Innovation Works. They have joined IAS as members of its International Advisory Board.
